Choosing a Remodeling Contractor:
Choosing a remodeling contractor is not always as
simple as picking the lowest-priced bid for a job.
An "apples to apples" comparison, is not easy to make.
Quality of work as well as what is included in the
contract and what is not, can vary substantially from
contractor to contractor.
There are many things a homeowner should consider
and we have included the main questions to ask recommended
by the National Contractors Association below.
- What kind of attention to details does the contractor
exhibit in their work?
- Will the contractor cut corners in areas that may
affect the integrity of the job?
- Will the contractor use substandard or lower quality
materials and products?
- How well does the contractor deal with changes
that may occur as the job progresses?
- Will the contractor charge excessive rates for
changes?
- Will the contractor accomodate your household needs
during the period of construction?
- Will the contractor follow-up on your needs and
concerns after the job is completed?
- Will the contractor bring in subcontractors who
do not know how to do the work?
